Needwant are proud to present South London poet and rapper, Dan Whitlam.

Dan Whitlam is a poet and rapper hailing from South-London. With a distinctive vocal tone and relaxed delivery, his style blends emotive lyrics with jazzy UK hip-hop beats earning him a place as one of the most ‘intriguing’ up and comers in the UK alternative hip hop scene (Jess Iszatt – BBC Radio London/ Radio 1).
Dan’s poetry has been featured on BBC Radio 4, Radio 1 and Radio London following a series of successful shows around the London gigging circuit.
After training as an actor at Guildhall, Dan has now found a home at Needwant with his unique spoken word compositions. His first release on the label, Young Minds, is an emotional piece – speaking about the song Dan says that it “Started as a tile poem I wrote in 2021 about the feeling of being on your twenties and then became a full poem I put on TikTok that got viewed by 1.1 million people which is crazy to think.”
His work tackles issues from the pressures of being young to the climate crisis and he manages to intricately convey his message through clever word play and excellent flow.
Alongside his musical endeavours Dan will also be launching a podcast, ‘Collecting Conversations’ which will fuse his unique style of spoken word poetry and rap laid over relaxing instrumentals and loops, with each episode focusing on a different story.
With his raw and powerful delivery, Dan has 2 more singles scheduled for release in 2022 and you can catch one of his captivating live performances on 5th October 2022 at House of St Barnabas, London.
