lau.ra is the solo electronic music project of Laura Bettinson, a producer, DJ, and vocalist originally from the Midlands and now residing just outside of London. You may know her as 1/3rd of Ultraísta with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, but she’s turned her attention to her own music, forging a path in wonky dance floor heaters that has been described by Billboard Dance as “what the future sounds like.”
Her debut single ‘I Just Wanna’ was released at the end of 2019 on Mike Mago’s BMKLTSCH RCRDS, before she joined Needwant Records for a string of successful singles. ‘Sideways’ featuring Secaina was named one of the top 5 Essential tracks of 2020 by 6Music presenters, while ‘Get Creative’ featuring Nova received support from both 6 Music and Radio 1’s Annie Mac. Ending one of her most successful years to date, lau.ra released ‘Wicked’ featuring Eliza Legzdina, which had an instant impact on streaming services and led to lau.ra being featured on various mixes, artist spotlights, and playlists on 6 Music and Radio 1.
In addition to her impressive output of singles, lau.ra has also earned recognition for her DJ skills, including a recent appearance on the prestigious BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. Her collaborations with a range of artists, including Sasha, Justin Martin, Cristoph, Four Tet, Maribou State, Huxley, and David Lynch, have also earned critical acclaim. With more exciting collaborations in the works for 2021, lau.ra’s future looks bright.
In her own words, “the music I’ve been making over the past 12 months is a whole new sound for me that required a whole new project. For the first time, I want to release new music under my own name and have felt more supported as a self-producing artist in electronic music than I ever did in pop.” This dedication to exploring new sounds and pushing boundaries has earned lau.ra high praise from critics and fans alike, and we can’t wait to see where she takes her music next.
